Psalm 46

June 7, 2018 by Alice Potter

Prayer Letter 8th June 2018

Hello everyone,

Very many thanks to Nick, Simon and Bert for the last three Prayer Letters. I asked them to “Put pen to paper”, so that you could hear from the three people who head up the work of the Surrey CPA. They are able to write in a way I cannot, they are the boots on the ground like yourselves; I am only able to walk alongside you.

Big Church Day Out. One of our Surrey Police Officers took a number of his family with him to BCDO. Two of his sisters became Christians and his Aunt went home with a lot of thinking still to do. Thank you, Lord, and Praying for those massively affected by the Event.

For Prayer

  • I am aware of a number of people who are hampered with minor problems in various areas of their lives; illness, family situations and ongoing personal battles that never seem to sort themselves out.

There comes a time when due to excessive work load etc, the body decides to go into melt down. This was my experience a few weeks ago. I admit I was pushing all the barriers. Thankfully it was minor and short lived.

At the same time, I heard former Chief Superintendent John Sutherland from the Met speak on the TV about his total break down due to the impact of his Policing career.

He said that two important factors were part of his recovery. “To Rest” and to meditate on “Be still and know that I am God” Ps 46. 10.

I pass his recommendations on to you today in an expression of Love to you.

Please make contact with me if you wish to do so by clicking here

May you know His Rest.

Alice.

Prayer Letter 4th May 2018

Hello Everyone,

I have this week, been to the Funeral Service of Marion Steer. She was part of the CAU Department that I visit as their Chaplain. A lovely, friendly, smiling Member of the Team. She received a Commendation from the CC for an Investigation in to an Historical Sexual Abuse Case. A privilege to have known such a wonderful person.

Please Pray for her Family, Colleagues and Friends. To those Prayers, please Pray for families in The Met, Surrey and Sussex who have big personal concerns in the area of health.

Last Friday I attended our Police Prayer Meeting at HQ’s. I asked those attending how their week had gone. One of our Staff Members said that one of his younger children was playing quietly in her bedroom mid evening; then suddenly – a rush of feet down the stairs, “Daddy, Daddy, I don’t know how to tell you this“. “Tell me what?” was his urgent reply, “It doesn’t matter what has happened, just please tell me“. His young Daughter had managed to lodge a bead inside her nose. Quickly it became obvious that a visit to A and E was essential. Thankfully a Medic had seen this all before, so Dad, Child and bead all returned home.
The following day, the same Dad, very busy at work at HQ’s had a phone call from his older Son, “Dad, I need to let you know I have had a car crash, I am OK, it was not my fault”. Dad offered to do all he could for his Son, although many miles away.
As these two stories were shared with us, it spoke to me of the trust both these Children had in their Dad; a picture of our relationship with our Heavenly Father. No matter what, He really wants to know how we feel and how we are. He wants us to be open with Him. He wants to be there for us.

He is an ever-present help in trouble” Psalm 46:1

Prayer Letter – 2nd March 2018

Hello everyone,

I trust you are well and able to face this weather problem.

I undertook a Chaplaincy visit into Woking Police Station today. Although many had made their journeys in, they were contemplating an early return home. Others were working from home. Please take great care.

Besides the difficulties caused by the present weather conditions, Prayers are also needed for a number of people who have been bereaved. Others with difficult situations in their families. Please join me in Praying for these people.

I was reminded today, by one of our Officers of a Chorus I shared with you some time ago. I feel it is right to leave it with you again. An opportunity to sit and take in the Goodness of The Lord in to our lives, whilst so much is going on around us. But first a verse, “Be still and know that I am God” Ps:46 10.

To be in your presence
To sit at Your feet
Where Your love surrounds me
And makes me complete
To rest in Your presence
Not rushing away
To cherish each moment
Here I would stay
This is my desire O Lord
This is my desire
This is my desire O Lord
This is my desire

Prayer Letter 31st March 2017

Hello everyone,

Thank you for the replies to last week’s PL. It was probably the most difficult letter I have ever written during the last nine years.

  • A recipient of the PL has been training to become one of Surrey’s future Officers. Yesterday evening, he became a fully-fledged Officer at Guildford Cathedral. Congratulations!
  • On Wednesday, I was asked to join Members of Surrey Police at Woking Mosque. The Imam had arranged a Silent Vigil in honour of PC Keith Palmer from London, A special time.

Prayer Please

  • One of our Members of Staff who had her daughter on Christmas Day last year, is in need of surgery. Please Pray for Mum as she prepares to go through this.
  • An Officer shared a long email with me this last week telling me of a number of difficulties in his work and his family’s life. I replied to him in promising my Prayers and any help I could give. He came back and said that having written down his thoughts; it had done him a lot of good and he was now feeling so much better. He went on to say –
‘I need to “Be still and know that He is God.” 🙂  …so that I can see what He has in it for me. I have no doubt that His plan will be revealed. My heart was broken in a specific area of my life and now I am working in that very area. This was not a job I asked or applied for, it found me. There will be something in this from God’.
I know that God allows us “To Learn” from happenings in our lives. He then knows we are gifted in that area, if we hand it to Him for Him to use. So the verse I am leaving with you today is Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God”.
Nine years ago, my husband spoke on those words on the last Sunday he attended Church before the Lord took him to Glory. At the time he needed to focus on The Lord and “Be Still”.

May you know your Almighty Heavenly Father’s Arms around you.

Prayer Letter 25th November 2016

Hello everyone,

It is good to be back in the driving seat and a very big thank you Nick for writing the PL last week.
“Back in the driving seat” is literally true for me. The two ops that I have had on my eyes have now allowed me to drive again, far sooner than anticipated and also to type this without specs. Amazing! “Thank you Lord and thank you for your Prayers for me”.

Following my last PL, I received the following-
* Thanks Alice for hitting the spot – suggesting that we should Pray for our family. We have just lost my husband’s Grandma, everyone is affected. Prayers for all of us please.

PRAYERS FOR THE FOLLOWING PLEASE

  • This morning (21st Nov), one of our uniformed colleagues here in Sussex Police; has had a heart attack whilst at work, he has just concluded successful surgery, which has saved his life. So prayers for him would be greatly welcomed.
  • Prayers for the family and Colleagues of a Detention Officer in Staines Custody Centre who died last Saturday.
  • All those who are off work sick, or struggling to stay at work
  • A reduction in crime and suffering across the nation
  • For those families who are preparing to spend Christmas without mum or dad because they will be on duty keeping us all safe.

Please see the following event for all emergency service workers in Guildford.

  • On Monday the 12th December 2016 at 8pm, St Saviours Church (Woodbridge Road, Guildford, GU1 4QD) are hosting a Christmas Carols Service for all emergency service colleagues and volunteers along with families and friends. There will be complimentary free light refreshments afterwards. Everybody is welcome and this is an informal event, so feel free to come in smart/casual dress. It would be great to have a big turn out and any questions, please contact Nick Sharpe or Simon Berger

Today as I write this PL, I am recalling 8 years ago. I was attending a Thanksgiving Service for the life of my husband Barry who had died earlier in the month. We spent 40 very happy years together. The last Sunday he attended Church he spoke on “Be still and know that I am God” Ps 46 10. Such a command. No matter what is happening around us, God is still in control. I battle with that on occasions, but hopefully I am learning.
My daily Prayers are for you as you move through your work and as you return to your family and friends.

Please feel free to contact me by adding a comment below or by clicking here to send me an email.

Many Blessings in Him.

Find Refuge In Jesus

Psalms 46:11. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

REFUGE; “the state of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or difficulty.”

There are times when all we are passing through, seems to cause us to feel like we are ‘sinking’ but this is the point where Jesus meets us, He IS our Refuge. He is the secret place that shields us from harm & danger. He hides us in the cleft of His blossom and in His arms He gives us shelter, protection, safety, security, asylum, sanctuary. If you feel like you can’t go on, come to The Refuge, He is waiting for you with outstretched arms. Today, if you have a need or you know someone who is struggling, stop and pray for (& with, if you can) them. Send in your prayer requests and we will lift them up before The Lord, for you are not alone.

Have a God-blessed day & remember to lift a smile, rejoice in-spite of the circumstances,

Samantha??
