Today’s exhortation – a good name!
The bible says, “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children.” Proverbs 13:22). Leaving an inheritance for our shouldn’t only be material wealth, but also leaving them a good name! The bible says, “A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.”(Proverbs 22:1). A good name can open doors to favour that money can’t buy. A good family name can bring respect and honour that money can’t get. David was a man who didn’t just leave material wealth as an inheritance, but a good name as well. There’s an instance in the bible were this can be alluded to.
The bible says, “The Lord said to Solomon, “Since you have not kept My covenant and My decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates. Nevertheless, for the sake of David your father, I will not do it during your lifetime. I will tear it out of the hand of your son. Yet I will not tear the whole kingdom from him, but will give him one tribe for the sake of David my servant…””(1 Kings 11:11-13). God spared both Solomon and his son based on David’s good name. We are also told that because of David’s good relationship with the neighbouring kings, Solomon had peace with them. David’s good name brought his son, peace with men and favour with God and may that be your portion. Amen
