Prayer Letter

Prayer Letter 28th September 2018

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for your comeback following last week’s Prayer Letter. Whilst visiting a Team in HQ’s this week one of our Surrey Officers came to me and said “The Prayer Letter always seems to hit the spot”. So good to hear and encouraging.

During the last five weeks in Surrey, five people have died, serving and recently retired Members of the Police Family. Our Force Chaplain wrote this, this morning “This is unprecedented and I am lost for words”. Prayers please for the whole of the Force, Family Members and Colleagues of those who have died.

Last Saturday I attended the Memorial Service held at Surrey Head Quarters. I had the privilege of playing for the Service. At the end of that period of time we left the building and walked out into the Memorial Garden. It was pouring with rain. As we stood in memory of those who had left us over many years and in the last few weeks; in a minute’s silence; I closed my eyes. In the distance I heard a horn of a train going through Guildford, a dog barking, probably one in our training school, and from time to time the roar of traffic as vehicles moved through the town in the distance. I was also aware of the rain quietly pattering down on my umbrella from the trees above us.

I realised in that moment my experience portrayed a picture of Police life. Out there I could hear the world amongst which our Officers are at work, but I also knew the Blessings coming down from the Lord as I heard the rain.

I am reminded of the Hymn, “How great Thou art”. No matter where we are or what we see, we can always sing “Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee, how great Thou art, how great Thou art”.

I Pray in all that is going on in your lives during this coming week you will be able to sing to your Saviour, “How great Thou art”.

Please feel free to contact me or add a comment below

Many Blessings

Keep safe in Him

Prayer Letter 21st September 2018

Hello Everyone,

Very many thanks to Simon and Bert for writing the PL whilst I have been away on holiday. Able to write in a way that is not possible for me.

It is good to return to put “Pen to paper” again. During my time away, I have been able to recharge my batteries and also to heal from a fractured wrist which happened 6 weeks ago.

This Saturday 22nd September we will be holding a Memorial Service at Surrey HQ’s where we will be remembering those who have died in Surrey Police. I have the great pleasure of playing for the Service. Continued Prayer please for those who are mourning due to the loss of these loved ones, including three families affected in the last few weeks in Surrey Police.

You will recall that we have been Praying for Paul, an Officer in Sussex. Below is an email he sent me this week. I am sharing it with his permission. He is writing from “Just where he is in reality but truly aware of His Lord”.

Hi Alice
I’m back in hospital and I am on a new ward this time, which is nicer. This is my last round of chemo. My cancer blood count has dropped from 30 to 4 which is good. I have a month of tests in October and hopefully get the all clear on the 29th October a day before my birthday. If the tumour is still there, then they will remove it. I still have no taste buds and these last two weeks at home have been hard with feeling sick and extreme tiredness and I’ve been getting pains in my legs which is caused by the steroids expanding my bone marrow but it has nowhere to go so it’s causing pain. Today they did find a vein first time which was a blessing and the chemo seems to be flowing ok with no blockages. Just three more days of chemo- then that’s it.
God has been so close to me and keeps saying that the battle belongs to him and do not fear I am with you.
Not sure when I will be back to work. Most people say it takes about 3 months to recover so that will be the New Year.
Thanks for your prayers
God Bless
Paul

“The battle belongs to the Lord. Do not be afraid”. 2 Chronicles 20.15. That is Paul’s Testimony. May we all rest in that statement this coming week.

Prayer Letter 14th Sept 2018

I have been reading through Luke at the moment and was challenged (again!) on reading the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). Have you ever noticed the question the lawyer asked Jesus in an effort to justify himself: “And who is my neighbour?” (v.29)

He didn’t ask “How can I be a better neighbour?” His focus was on who is his neighbour (suggesting that there are some people who would fall into the category of ‘not my neighbour’)

Jesus didn’t challenge this question directly but told the story of the Good Samaritan. He used a case study to challenge the man’s thinking and get the answer to the question he should have asked.

36″Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbour to the man who fell among the robbers?” 37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”

As followers of Christ we are to see everyone as our neighbour and show them mercy. My prayer for you is that you seek to show mercy to everyone around you. Show people compassion and forgiveness when it is hard because, as his children, we have received God’s mercy. God has forgiven us when we should be punished. He has put our punishment on his Son so that we can be right before Him. Hallelujah! What a Saviour!

This coming week please continue to pray for:

  • All those grieving and coming to terms with recent news of a bereavement. This week, in Surrey, we’ve had a recently retired Sergeant’s death.
  • Please also pray for our Surrey Force Chaplain as he works with senior managers, families and others in the preparation for any involvement in the funerals.
  • Those recovering from illness or receiving ongoing treatment – you are in our prayers!

Every blessing!
Bert

Prayer Letter 7th September 2018

Dear All

I hope you have had a good week and as the weekend is upon us, have lots of plans for the weekend, if you are not working.

This week I have had to say goodbye to a colleague who I have known for most of my service, and who I have worked very closely with for the last four years. She retired on Wednesday after thirty years’ service, to the day, and at the beginning of the week had gone up to the HQ’s to see the DCC Gavin Stevens to receive her certificate’s and his thanks. We celebrated her service with a breakfast and presents to remember us by – those who have been left working and have a loooong time before retirement comes!! After breakfast she emptied her draws, packed a few things and left the building for the last time, with a few tears shed. I wondered what she was thinking as she packed before she left. I would find it very hard to leave the people and a job I had known and loved for so long.

We have a Father in heaven who knows us and loves us. We were created by a loving father, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart” Jer 1:5, and we were created for a purpose, For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jer 29:11, and we are right where he wants us to be.

Now I don’t ever imagine retiring from my Christian way of life, the Bible certainly never mentions it, and I don’t think we need to wait to the end before going up to the big house in our best clothes to get our certificates and a word of thanks, I think that is there for us now, so take a moment over a cup of coffee or tea and meditate on this ‘Well done, good and faithful [friend]!” Matt 25:21. Let it soak in.

You all work hard and you may never get a word of thanks here at work or at home. I want to say your Father in heaven sees all that you do, and He wants to say, ” Thank you” and ” Well done.”

Now look around the room and see if there is someone else you can bless with this! 🙂

Have a great week!

Kind regards

Simon Berger

Prayer Letter 31st Aug 2018

Hello Everyone,

To those who have just returned from holiday, I trust you have had a good time away and welcome back.

  • Our Sussex Officer Paul, is again in hospital undergoing further Chemo Treatment. Prayer against the side effects please.

Earlier this week, I was reading the Blessings/Statements made by Joseph’s Father on him and his eleven brothers who became the heads of the 12 Tribes of Israel at the end of Genesis. Some of the things that were said were very harsh, but I guess were all prophetic and from a “knowing” father. It was for sure, he had a favourite; Joseph.

As I was reading the verses, I was reminded of the times people have said hard things about me, or I have assumed things I believe people think about me and it can get me into a downward spiral. But then I realise I need to take on board what God thinks and says about me. I am His adopted Child and Redeemed by the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 1:5

“God decided in advance to adopt me into his own family by bringing me to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure”.

Live in the good this coming week of knowing that you adopted into your Heavenly Father’s Family.

Prayer Letter 24th August 2018

Hello Everyone,

I trust you are well. Some of you will be on holiday and others will by now have returned to many emails in your inbox I am sure.

Again this week, I want to home in on Prayers for the Police Family Children. Today as I prepare this PL; it is the day that the GCSE results have been announced and will have impacted on many of you. As a Grandma, I understand.
I saw the following earlier today –

  • Your GCSE Results will only show the academic achievement of your studies. They will not quantify your character, personality, beliefs or values! Grades are important, but the rest is who you are.

For other Parents, there is an on-going battle with Children in the area of their Educational needs due to a Child having “Special” needs. Constantly fighting the world of Education, wondering how to go about planning the best for your Child.

Please join me in Praying for all our Parents in the area of the fall out of Exam Results today and wisdom to know how to obtain the best Education for all our Children.

A set of verses that has been with me since the beginning of the week that Rutter has set to Music I want to leave with you today. Numbers 6 24-26

“The Lord bless you
and keep you;
The Lord make His Face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
The Lord turn His Face toward you
and give you His Peace.”

May you know His Blessings and His Peace.

Please contact me at any time by adding a comment below or by clicking here

Stay Safe in Him.
