Today’s exhortation – forgive yourself

One day whilst in early morning prayer, The Lord asked me to do something I had not thought of doing before, which is “to forgive myself!” The reason being, I spoke at an event which didn’t go as planned and so I was very disappointed with myself. After that, I had been reliving the moment in my head over and over and each time I thought about it, I felt a huge pang of regret. There were many occasions this robbed me of my peace and happiness. The Lord pointed out to me that it was equally important to forgive ourselves too. How many fathers or mothers blame themselves for not being around to support their children or for missing parts of their childhood? How many divorcees are living with regret? Blaming ourselves repeatedly, living with regret or guilt can lead to bondage.

The story of the prodigal son in the bible, shows us God’s eagerness to forgive us when we repent. The prodigal son was a man who asked his father for his inheritance so he could move out. After he had wasted his inheritance and had nothing left, he regretted his actions and said to himself, “I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.” (Luke‬ ‭15:18-20‬). God is The Father in this story and it shows His compassion, love and eagerness to forgive us. God loves us.

Prayer Letter 6th January 2017

Hello Everyone,
The following was written on Twitter by a Police Chief Inspector from outside our Forces and is a Christian. He was about to go on duty for New Year’s Eve, covering a very large area. Family left behind. Husband and Dad walked out of his home, to care for others

“Minis and Mrs. …. all kissed happy New Year and goodnight – now for Public Order Command for………… hoping everyone has a great night!”

That is an amazing picture of Police dedication. A very big thank you! Surrey, Sussex and the Met. I realise too that this is not a once in a year happening, you do this daily. Yes again – “A very big thank you”. Also, gratitude to your families, who have to let you go, so that you can look after other people.

  •  Many Congratulations to two Surrey Police Staff, on the arrival of their daughter on Christmas Day. Please Pray for Mum and Baby; both recovering from a traumatic delivery and Dad of course as he cares for them both”.
  • I understand that two others in the Forces who also receive the PL have been asked to become God Parents to this little one. Prayers for you too as you support this special family).
  • Please submit news or requests for sharing via this PL

Now a New Year. What awaits us internationally/nationally and personally? What awaits the police family within the UK
During the weeks since the last Prayer Letter, two areas of God’s Word have come to mind – the Prodigal Son and the 23rd Psalm. We read that the Father saw his Son afar off. Did Dad just happen to be out there looking for him that particular day? I like to think that Dad was always outside waiting for him to come home. And then we are told in Psalm 23 that “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want”. Again a picture of a Loving Father who is always there looking out for us.
I Pray that as this year progresses, you will know your Heavenly Father is there for you, looking out for you and constantly caring for you.

Please add comments below or submit requests or news for inclusion here

Many Blessings
Alice.

Today’s exhortation – the joy of salvation

We’ve come to what I think is one of the best parts of Joseph’s story which is when he reveals himself to his brothers. It also shows us a picture of what happens when one receives Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. The bible says, “Then Joseph could not restrain himself before all those who stood by him, and he cried out, “Make everyone go out from me!” So no one stood with him while Joseph made himself known to his brothers.” (Genesis‬ ‭45:1). I believe what this is telling us is salvation is a one on one experience. Christ reveals Himself to us personally! The bible also says, “When the report was heard in Pharaoh’s house, “Joseph’s brothers have come,” it pleased Pharaoh and his servants.” ‭‭(Genesis‬ ‭45:16‬).

Jesus said, “Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (‭‭Luke‬ ‭15:10‬). There’s rejoicing because, “The Lord is not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” (2 Peter‬ ‭3:9‬). Also, after Joseph revealed himself to his brothers, Pharaoh said to them, “Bring your father and your households and come to me; I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you will eat the fat of the land.” (‭Genesis‬ ‭45:18‬). This is also one of the Father’s promises to anyone who repents and takes Jesus into their hearts as Lord. You will get the best of the land and will eat the fat of the land. Hallelujah! Amen!

Today’s exhortation – ‘Salvation’, priceless!

I believe Joseph’s relationship with his brothers also speak about own relationship with Christ. In this story, the brothers represent us. However, there’s good news. The bible says, “Both the One who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.” ‭‭(Hebrews‬ ‭2:11‬). What’s more, just as Joseph gave his brothers food for free, so Christ gives us salvation for free! But, they tried on more than one occasion to ‘buy’ the food and that’s what we do sometimes. We think that we can buy or earn salvation by our good works. No! It’s free! Praise The Lord!

We can be like the prodigal son, saying to our Father, “Make me as one of Your hired servants” (Luke 15:19) but, He just wants us back as sons and daughters, not servants. The message of the cross is powerful because it’s God freely offering something that can’t be bought or earned. He offers it free because it’s priceless and it can be hard to imagine something so priceless can be free, but that’s the love of God. We can never pay for our sins so He paid it for us. The bible says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” ‭‭(Ephesians‬ ‭2:8‬). Thank You Jesus. Amen

Today’s exhortation – abundance of grace

The abundance of God’s grace towards us can be see in Joseph’s promotion. When he was promoted, Pharaoh took highly symbolic actions to cement his promotion. The bible says, “Then Pharaoh took his signet ring off his hand and put it on Joseph’s hand; and he clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck.” (Genesis‬ ‭41:42‬). This showed Joseph’s elevation to prestige, power and acceptance. Both robe and ring alluded to Joseph’s promotion to authority. Robes were given to honoured guests; the ring was a signet ring, indicating authority. This is similar to what the father did for his prodigal son when he returned home.

Once upon a time, we too were prodigal children until we went back to God through Jesus. When we turned back to Him, He had compassion, and ran to us and kissed us. Then as was in the case of the prodigal son, the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.”‭‭ (Luke‬ 15:22). This is the level of acceptance, power and prestige God our Father has lavished on us. And, just as Joseph had all of Pharaoh’s authority behind him, we too have God’s behind us in Jesus. As a result, whatever we bind on earth in Jesus Name is bound in heaven and whatever we loose on earth is loosed in heaven. (Matthew 18:18) Amen!
