Today’s exhortation – God helps the weak

This might come as a shock to many as it did to me, but the phrase “God helps those who helps themselves” is not in the bible! Nowhere in the bible does it say that. The phrase originated from Ancient Greece. However we are exhorted to be disciplined and hardworking. We are to step out in faith to take hold of God’s promises. Eg. When Jesus said to Peter, “Come,” Peter had to get out of the boat to see that he too could walk on water, but it wasn’t his own doing. What the bible does say is that He helps those who look to Him as their only source of help for their problem. If you say, “My problem is that I am weak.” God says, “That is not a problem. I Am your strength.” My strength is made perfect in weakness!”” (2 Corinthians 12:9)

The bible also says “For You have been a defense for the helpless, a defense for the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat…” (Isaiah 25:4). “He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” (Isaiah‬ ‭40:29-31‬). Amen
