Today’s exhortation – generational sins

God loves mercy and what He requires of us, He provides for us. God requires justice and payment for our sins and the sins of our forefathers(generational sins) in His mercy, He sent His only Begotten Son Jesus to pay for it by dying on the cross. Similarly, the resulting curses had to be dealt with so Jesus He took care of that too. The bible says, “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (Galatians‬ ‭3:13-14‬). Our part in this is to put our faith in Jesus, to confess our sins and turn from it (repentance), so that they can be forgiven and guilt and curses removed.

In relation to generational sins, in Leviticus 20:40-42, God gives us a pattern and a promise of freedom if we confess our sins and our forefathers’ and we humble ourselves. This is called “identification repentance” and e.gs can be found in Daniel’s prayer in Daniel 9 or Ezra’s in Ezra 9. The question is why do we have to suffer for what our forefathers did? We don’t, if we deal with the sin in God’s way. We’ll only suffer if we enter into the same sins and make their sins our own and do not take advantage of God’s provision for freedom in Jesus. We can apply the power of the cross to nullify all the pressures of generational sins and to break the power of the resulting curses which we’ll look at next.

Today’s exhortation – generational sins & resulting curses

What are generational sins and resulting curses and how do they affect us today? Generational sins or sins of the fathers is the heart tendency that we inherit from our forefathers to sin the way they did against God. We find that even when we determine in our hearts to be different from our forefathers i.e parents, grand parents or great grandparents, sometimes, we find ourselves doing exactly what they did. An eg from the bible will be Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The first generation Abraham lied about his wife. In Genesis 12:10-20, he went to Egypt and lied to the people that Sarah was his wife by saying she was his sister because he was afraid they’ll kill him. 2nd generation – some years later, Isaac Abraham’s son also faced a similar situation like his father, but he too lied and said his wife was his sister because he was afraid they’ll kill him.

3rd generation Jacob who’s name means deceiver was also a liar and a cheat. The three generations unwittingly committed the same type of sins. The law of God says that the iniquity of the fathers will be visited upon the children to the third and fourth generations (Exodus‬ ‭20:5‬). But there’s good news, the bible says, Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, (Galatians‬ ‭3:13-14‬). However in order to benefit from this, we must make use of it. It’s like having money in the bank, we must withdraw it in order to use its power to break any generational sins and resulting curses in our lives. Please note, inner healing is a broad and deep topic which I’ve made simple, so to get a deeper grasp I would encourage you to read more on this subject.

Today’s exhortation – God promised us!

It appears throughout the bible that God likes to be reminded of His promises. It’s not because He has forgotten them, but it’s an invitation for us to partner with Him to bring them to pass in our lives. A church leader shared this; he promised his children that after church he would take them to their favourite restaurant, the children were very excited! After church he was asked to attend a leaders meeting and told his children the outing would have to be cancelled. However, his children refused to accept this. He was pummelled over and over with statements of, “You said,” “You promised!” until finally he had no choice but to give in. At that moment he heard God say to him, “I wished that My children would hold Me to My promises the way that your children hold you to yours!”

God says, “You who make mention of the LORD, do not keep silent, And give Him no rest till He establishes…”(‭Isaiah‬ ‭62‬:‭6-7‬). He’s not asking us to beg Him, He’s asking us to give Him no rest! We qualify for the promises because it is written, “And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.” Galatians‬ ‭3:29‬). He promises to meet our every need and so if you’ve a need, remind Him and give Him no rest until He brings it to pass. If He said it, then He will do it. Amen!

Today’s exhortation – In Him

The Lord Jesus said ““Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” (John‬ ‭14:12). So I asked The Lord why we weren’t seeing the level of healing and breakthroughs He said we would and I felt Him say, it’s because we haven’t fully grasped who we are in Christ, what He’s done for us and who we are as sons and daughters. Once we grasp that, the way we pray will change because we will get a revelation of The Father’s love for us and the authority that comes with being His children. Then we will begin to do what He said in the scripture.

So now I am on a quest to find out who I am in Christ and I will encourage everyone to as well. I will recommend Kenneth’s Hagin’s book “In Him” as a start. There’s clearly so much more in store for us than we are seeing now. We can’t be satisfied with the status quo. God says, “ask of Me and I will give you the nations as an inheritance.” (Psalms 2:8). That’s the size of what He’s willing to give us if we ask Him. All the blessings of Abraham are our’s, healing, spiritual and financial blessings, favour, etc are all our’s. (Galatians 3:14). Think of how much we can accomplish if we get who we are in Jesus? O God give us a revelation of Your love for us and who we are in Christ. Amen
