Big Church Day Out

May 26, 2018 by Simon Berger

Prayer Letter 25th May 2018

Good afternoon All

Given the recent re-launch of the Christian Association within Surrey, it was suggested to us that those involved should write the following prayer letters. You received Nick’s last week, and now it’s my turn. As I start I want to acknowledge the work and service of PC 1945 Nick Sharpe. I have been involved in the CPA here in Surrey since 2008,; Nick has been branch secretary of the CPA in Surrey since 1999. Since I have known him, and since being asked to be involved in the CPA I have never known him complain, and he has always been an example to look up to. I admire Nick a lot. Nick, I know, has seen this only ever as a great privilege. In my very early years Nick came to my assistance after I had been assaulted in Guildford [ one of my less glamorous moments!] and he sat with me up in A&E. I know that some of you will have similar stories to tell. I feel fortunate that Nick is still heavily involved with the running of the CPA, and I am delighted that Bert, amongst others, have joined the team.

This year I am going to the Big Church Day Out at Wiston House in West Sussex for the first time. At the beginning of the week it looked like a great idea, I’m less sure now because of the weather! I am serving on the safeguarding team.
“Could I ask that one of the prayer requests is for fruitful, key connections, that will help advance the work of Faith and police together.”
I have also had another request for this event, “That it will be a great success and also for the Police who will be attending from Surrey, Sussex and The Met, working in various areas of Safeguarding.” Thank you.
For those attending and serving I look forward to catching up over the weekend. 🙂

So my thoughts that I wanted to share with you this week is to do with teaching I have received recently. I am/have been attending a course in Bedford for the last 8 months every Thursday on Supernatural Ministry.[ Great course if you are interested, drive is a killer!] I have been really challenged by teaching that essentially says, that regardless of the sin that can be committed against us, our sin is greater. To my mind that’s a tough one and you may not agree, or even think the teaching is skewed! I think there is truth in it but I am wrestling with the fact that we all know stories of people who have had it really tough, or been victims of crime, and had untold harm caused them. I know that “Jesus… is the Author and Perfecter of faith…”[Hebrews 12:2]and with Him I will work this one out.

In a way, this is what I see the CPA in Surrey doing/being, and in the wider region. We can’t do it alone, but we can do it together. We are a broad church[forgive the pun!] and our communality is our faith in Jesus and our work for the police. I can’t think of a better bunch I’d rather do it with! 🙂

If I[we] can help, please do get in touch – that goes for those in the Church and not.

My thoughts and blessings are with you all. I hope that you have a great bank holiday weekend, and half term if off work with family.

Simon

Prayer Letter 17th Nov 2017

Hello Everyone,

PRAISE

Recently I have asked for Prayer for various difficult issues. Here is one answer:
“As a point of praise, my family and I are now residents of rural East Sussex, living in a nice, quiet home, close to country walks.
Lord, thank you for your faithfulness to us……that if we seek your will, you will give us the desires of our hearts……and that you keep your promises to us. Thank you, Lord, !!”

Jeremiah 29 v11 “For I know the plans I have for you”

PRAYER
“May I continue to ask for prayers for my dear husband S who has so many medical conditions with complications, yet does not complain.

I feel so humbled and after forty-three years of marriage he never ceases to amaze me with his strength and faith”

REQUEST
“It is that time of year again when I am seeking volunteers for the Big Church Day Out. There is both the north and south event. I would really appreciate your support for this event”. (Attached to this PL is a sheet of information on the two events from Ins: Clare McKnight of Sussex Police who is organising the Volunteers).

Last weekend we celebrated Remembrance Sunday. I saw the following verse during a broadcast on TV at the time.

* “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God”. Matt: 5.9.

Again, may you know His Blessings on your lives as you go about bringing Peace into our Communities. And – “Thank You”.

In Him

Alice.

Prayer Letter 13th January 2017

Hello everyone,

A message I have received this week, it is a reply to a comment I made. I felt that the writer is so busy at work, finding time to read the PL must be difficult to do, if not impossible

“Many thanks Alice- of course I find time to read the PL! Everything stops for a few moments of quiet reflection as I read the letter. Even just that minute or so taken out to focus on what is really important in life helps recharge my batteries so keep up the good work!”

PRAYER

  • I have become aware over the Christmas period that there are a number of Officers who are dealing with ill health amongst their families. Prayer please for those that are left behind when Officers and Staff go out on duty. Also that good medical support will be available to them.
  • Again this year we are being asked by Sussex Police to encourage Officers from the Met, Surrey, and Sussex to be available to support in the area of Safeguarding at the Big Church Day Out being held in Sussex in May. Two attachments added to below for further information.

On Sunday last at Church, one of our Leaders told us that during the previous week; he had made tea for himself and one of his Colleagues. Colleague likes “proper” sugar in his tea, but he the Leader always had a sweetener. As he walked away with the two mugs of hot drinks, he could not recall which was which. So he tasted both, the first one was OK but then he tasted the second one. He realised that that one was his Colleague’s, the taste of real sugar was obvious and wonderful.
That happening stayed with him during the week. A substitute is OK, but the real thing is so much better. He encouraged us not to place substitutes in the way of us getting to God. This so spoke to me – “I’ll Pray shortly but I will stop and have something to eat first”. “Mustn’t forget my Bible Reading, I’ll do it later”. I am so good at doing God’s stuff, but only “once I have done this”. Inevitably “coming to God” often does not get done.
Thankfully the following is true. “Even though God knew we would be sinners, He still sent Jesus to die for us” Rom 5.8.

If you wish to make contact with me please do so by clicking here, or by adding a comment in the comment section below.

Many Blessings as you press on into another week.
My Prayers are with you daily.

Alice.
