Today’s exhortation – peace of mind?
I believe phrases like ‘peace of mind’ make it seem like having no trouble means you have peace. It’s more than that, having peace of mind is also being able to go through the storm unperturbed. A visual description of it is when Jesus slept in the boat in the midst of the storm to the point that he had to be woken up by the disciples. We’re told he slept on a pillow. That shows how comfortable He was. I believe that’s the kind of peace the bible says surpasses all understanding. The kind were people look at us and knowing all the trouble and turmoil in our lives and expecting us to crumble; see a person who’s still smiling and praising God.
In order words, the way we are dealing with adversity doesn’t make sense. That’s the kind of peace God gives. That’s why we’re able to say, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” Psalms 23:4). “We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.” (II Corinthians 4:8-9), In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. (Romans 8:37). Amen! Thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ. (II Corinthians 2:14)
