Prayer Points – September & October 2012

Metropolitan Branch

 Prayer Points

September & October 2012

Please pray:

  • We thank God that the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the biggest peacetime policing operation in Metropolitan Police Service history, has passed without serious issue and, in particular, that the anniversary of the 2011 Summer riots passed uneventfully.
  •  For the unprecedented programme of change facing the MPS in coming months with the need to find more than £500m of savings over 3 years. The MPS will be radically changing to improve service delivery in a more effective and cost efficient way and the outcome of the changes will be the ‘One Met Model’. Pray for wisdom for those making decisions and for God’s help for those most affected.
  • And in particular for the planned introduction of the Local Policing Model and for the staff movements this will entail. Pray that disruption will be minimised and that the service to the public will not be compromised.
  • That strategic decisions and initiatives around tackling Gang Activity and Serious Youth Violence will be effective, centrally through Operation Trident, and locally through borough Gang Units. We thank God that SYV and knife crime have gone down in recent months and pray that more young people will be diverted away from gangs.
  • That the annual ‘spike’ in Anti-Social Behaviour in the run up to Halloween and Firework night will not happen this year; that measures to prevent it will be effective.
  •  For the Metropolitan branch of the CPA, for the Executive Committee and Borough and Building representatives meeting on 12th October, that we will be effective in supporting colleagues, encouraging Christians to be strong in their faith at work and building bridges with communities.
  • For MPS Chief Inspector David Smart as he leads on Faith Group engagement, and for communities to welcome opportunities to engage with the MPS.
  • For CPA National Executive Director Don Axcell as he has a period of sabbatical leave. We thank God for Don’s leadership and pray this will be a time of refreshment for him.
  • For staff members who have experienced an extremely demanding Summer period, for those who have been unable to have significant time with their families and those with higher than is healthy levels of fatigue and stress. Please pray for their families.
  • In the aftermath of the Independent Hillsborough Panel chaired by the Bishop of Liverpool, for God’s comfort and His peace for all those affected and involved, and for our colleagues in South Yorkshire Police as they come to terms with the findings.
