About Alice Potter

Alice has been a friend of the LCPF for many years and has previously played the piano at our annual celebrations.

She has been a Volunteer in Surrey Police for 22 years. Eight years ago she joined SP as a Support Worker for the CPA; since when she has written the Prayer Letter every week, at Surrey HQ’s. She supports the Christians and many others in the Force.

Three years ago she was asked to be the Chaplain at Woking Police Station. Caring for the Major Crime Team for Surrey and Sussex and the Complex Abuse Unit; amongst other Departments.

She is also a Trustee in the Woking Street Angel Team

Thanks to a new partnership between the LCPF, Surrey CPA and the Sussex Police Christian Fellowship the coverage of the Prayer Letter is now being shared between the force areas that the respective groups cover.

Prayer Letter from Alice Potter

Hello Everyone,

I trust you are well.

I am attaching information for Big Church Day Out. Please check out the information below. As in past years, Police are needed for Safeguarding Teams.

I have received request for Prayer. An Officer from The Met is undergoing a facial/nasal operation to treat an old injury, which is now causing him much distress. His general health is poor, so an intensive bed has also been booked. He will be away from work for a fortnight.

Prayer please for one of our Officers and his family. His 3-year-old Daughter – his only Child; has just been diagnosed with Leukaemia. She is in a London Hospital and today the 24th Jan: is due to start Chemo Treatment. Her Mother is staying with her.

With the above needs in mind; the verse I want to leave with you today is “He is exceedingly able to do more than we can ask or imagine. Eph:3.21.

May you know today His Immeasurable Love.

God Bless you and keep you.

Alice.

The Big Church Day Out – Volunteering Opportunities

This May and June, over 20,000 people from across the UK & Europe will be joining together for the Big Church Day Out (BCDO) on the Wiston Estate near Steyning, West Sussex.  The annual event has been running since 2009 and has grown to become an exciting weekend-long event for the wider Christian community.

Each year, over 500 volunteers give their time to ensure the not-for-profit event runs smoothly. For 2019, the Police has been invited to support in a voluntary capacity again, specifically in relation to the safeguarding children and vulnerable adults attending the event.   Clare McKnight, has led the team for the last 3 years and will be continuing to do so this year.  She is a recently retired police inspector from Sussex Police.   We are therefore appealing for individuals who would be willing to assist with the event.

Safeguarding volunteers would be responsible for dealing with lost and separated children, as well as any immediate concerns for vulnerable persons.  They can be either police officers or police staff and would attend as a member of the public, not in a uniformed capacity.

In return, as well as the opportunity to be part of a great team, volunteers will receive:

  • Free access to the event when not working plus free tickets for immediate family.
  • Free camping onsite (including family) or accommodation at a local conference centre (volunteer only)
  • Free meals (2 per worked day)
  • Refreshments

Support for the event will be provided from Friday 24th May to Sunday 26th May (South) with early and late shifts available. If you would be interested in volunteering at an exciting and vibrant family event or would like further information, then please send your expression of interest to Clare McKnight at clare@bigchurchdayout.com.

Prayer Letter from Alice Potter

Hello Everyone,

I trust you are well.

I would like to share a happening with you.

Many of you will know that the Surrey Cheif Constable, Nick Ephgrave, has accepted a new position as Assistant Commissioner in The Met. Last Thursday he held a farewell Afternoon Tea in Surrey for a number of Dignitaries, who had been very much involved with him during his time as Cheif Constable. He asked me to attend so that I could play the piano – light classical music in the back ground; as chatting and munching took place. I felt very honoured and privileged to be asked to be at such an event.

Prayer for Surrey’s Police Chaplain, please. Patrick is about to have his second medical procedure. Prayer that a bed will be available for him.

A special Christian friend of mine told me a few days into the New Year, that she had been invited to a nearby home for a buffet meal and to spend time with the family, as they saw in the New Year. She has been invited there on many occasions for meals and as has happened before, was asked to say Grace before they started to eat.

After Grace was said, – in which my friend gave thanks for these special neighbours and for the food etc; one of the young people in the family asked her – “Did you know what you were going to say in the Grace?” My friend explained that she was talking to God and no, she had no idea what she was going to say but knew that she really appreciated the family; the way they had invited her to join them for the New Year’s Eve Celebration Meal and of course she appreciated the food.

We read in His Word – Jeremiah 29.10

“You will call on me and come and Pray to me and I will listen to you”.

May I encourage you today to Pray about everything that is on your heart, just like my friend did on New Year’s Eve. She did not plan her words, it came straight from her heart and how she was feeling at that moment.

As it says in His Word “He will listen to you”

God Bless you and keep you.

Prayer Letter 11th Jan/19

Hello everyone.

Thank you for the response to last week’s Prayer Letter.

Again, this week; continued Prayer please for Patrick and Paul.

Due to Patrick’s absence, I am Acting Surrey Force Chaplain. I would, as you may imagine appreciate your Prayers. Thank you.

On the last day of 2018, I received an email from a recipient of the Prayer Letter. At the end of the message; the following verse was written. I knew when I saw it, it was to be shared in the Prayer Letter. Here it is.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” Philippians 4:6 NIV

No further words are needed.

May you know His Peace, His Love and His Care.

Please feel free to contact me at any time.

Prayer Letter 4th Jan/19

Hello Everyone,

A Very Happy New Year to you all. I Pray that, for you in the Mighty Name of Jesus.

I know many of you will have been on duty during the Christmas period and more recently the New Year. Thank You! I do however trust that you have had precious time with your family and friends. Personally, I know how special such time is with family; having a Daughter who lives in The States and was able to spend five days with me here in the UK, over Christmas.

Continued Prayer for our Force Chaplain please, Patrick Samuels. He is undergoing further treatment following a heart attack before Christmas.

During last year we started to Pray for Paul, an Officer in Sussex. He is, as I shared with you, Cancer free and is able to return to work. However, in the last few weeks, he has a health issue as a kick back from his treatment that needs to be dealt with, before he can take this step. Please, continued Prayer for him.

I have been in regular contact with Paul during this time of illness. I am leaving with you below; part of an email he sent me (with his permission). He was replying to my email at the time.

Hi Alice
Thank you for your words which mean a lot to me at this time. I’ve been reading Psalm 23 again and the words – that God wants to put us in green pastures to restore our souls etc. I just feel that God has been saying to me just stop and rest and draw close to me and get to know me so your words of “Be still and know that I am God” really spoke to me.
Paul

Surely, I should be writing about being up and being active, after all, it is the beginning of a New Year. But no. I am reminded of John Sutherland’s comment, (He was a former Commander in The London Met), “If the oxygen masks come down in the aircraft in which you are travelling due to an emergency and you have your young daughter alongside you, you do not do what comes naturally – place her mask on first, you place your mask on and then tend to her needs”. John is a great encourager in “God’s Oxygen”.

I am therefore encouraging you as I do myself to take time out to “Rest in Him”, then you and I will be able to cope with those around us who need us.

Please feel free to contact me at any time using the form below.

Many Blessings during 2019

Alice.

Prayer Letter 23rd Nov 2018

Hello Everyone,

A lot of happenings around us tells us that Christmas is coming. I am sure that you and your families are looking forward to a time in your Churches singing Christmas Carols. I am enjoying rehearsing our Choir and Instrumentalists ready for our Carol Services.

  • I welcomed a new Reader to the PL three weeks ago. A brand-new Officer in Surrey Police. Sadly, a car accident has taken place, not our Reader’s fault on the M25 on their way home, very painful back, neck and shoulders. Awaiting treatment for these injuries. Also, the car is sick! Grateful to Colleagues who have shown much love and care. Still managing to get to work. Prayers for full healing please.

A few weeks ago, we were remembering the end of the First World War. This year being a special time; being the Hundredth Anniversary. The plaques recalling the names of Members of our Church that I attend were on our platform during our Services on that Remembrance Sunday.

Our Pastor spoke about the lives of some of those mentioned. “Held a Bible Study regularly in his home”. “Was the Church Organist”.

Our Youth Worker was asked to take the main speaking section as we had our children and young people in the Service. He told the story of Lazarus, and homed in on the words “Jesus wept” John 11.35. Even Jesus cried at the death of His friend, even though He knew Lazarus would walk out of the tomb in a very short time. He wanted His friends around Him to see that He could feel for them and have compassion on them.

He is that same Jesus today for each one of us. He understands just where we are right now in every area of our lives.

Please be assured of my Prayers for you all as you go about your work; looking after us the Public in The Met Police, Surrey and Sussex; as well as in your home lives where you have family and friends.

Prayer Letter 16th November 2018

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for your responses to last week’s Prayer Letter.

Continued Prayer for Paul and Johnny please.

Over the last two weeks I have shared with you the message given by J. John at the London Celebration Service organised by the London Christian Police Family. He encouraged everyone there “To Pray”, “To Care” and “To Share”. Pray for Colleagues around you, show them you care and then today we come to the last encouragement “To Share” with them the Love of God; which you know and understand.

I am leaving the following Chorus with you written by Carol Owens.

“God forgave my sin in Jesus’ Name, I’ve been born again in Jesus’ Name

And in Jesus’ Name I come to you to share His Love as He told me to.

He said freely freely you have received, freely freely give.

Go in My Name and because you believe others will know that I live”.

Something I have not done for a short while, is to say; so very many thanks for all you are and do as Members of The Met, Surrey and Sussex Police Services. I truly admire and appreciate you all.

The reality of the above was brought forcibly to mind last evening whilst I was attending an Interfaith Meeting at our HQ’s. Our on- duty Inspector who is a Christian, left in his car. As I waved him goodbye, I was so pleased I could leave him in God’s Hands, not knowing what he or his Colleagues were facing. Yes, a massive “Thank You” to you all.

Please contact me if you wish to do so by clicking here or adding a comment below

Blessings in His Name

Alice.
