In recent times the corner had to be held, a fight of principles to prevent the enemy gaining ground, I learnt that steadfastness features many times in the bible sometimes we have to stand when others disagree and oppose you 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.
We were to hold a Night of Miracles at our church, one Sunday one of the ministers to preach that evening had specifically requested I perform just one worship song we were told a resounding ‘No’ the organising committee did not want it. The song we both had in mind ‘Show Me Your Glory by the Chrisitian band Jesus Culture’ would be a gateway into the very throne room – the preacher was prepared to sacrifice 5 minutes of his ‘sermon time’ it was refused, as so often in past years God said to me through His word and the small inner voice ‘ brush the dust off and walk away’ – matthew 10:14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.
Suffice it to say I prayed about the situation and did not attend the event – then I began to understand a little about dishonour – you see at the point a sacrifice was made 5 minutes of time and was rejected brought dishonour to what would have been a great event, but in wider context the preacher willing to give up his own time was rejected and hence dishonoured. I then began to realise the Night of Miracles event would not go according to plan, that Sunday morning as I attended to set up for the worship team, I found broken stands, failed cables and the drum kit one of the skins had fractured badly. It seemed to suggest there are consequences to our decision making in matters of rejection, sacrafice and dishonour – it really made me think and pray!
I wonder and we all do it knowingly or otherwise when we dishonour the Lord by rejecting His leading, I guess it is having the wisdom to know when to brush the dust off and walk away or be steadfast and stand the ground. Having prayed and researched further it would seem the winds of change are blowing, are there signs in your life now where a sense of change is happening? I am so acutely aware in the world of policing we are challenged in many ways we can learn to keep upright focus on Him asking for our paths to be made straight although they seldom are.
So For Jesus and all that He gave to us, let us be wise and in our knowing understand the if one is willing to sacrifice we should think carefully in case our clumsiness causes them to stumble – the experiences really got me thinking and understanding around Matthew 10:14 and its meaning for had I attended the Night of Miracles event my focus would have been elsewhere after all we are all human. Food for thought!
