“Then said Ziba unto the king, According to all that my lord the king hath commanded his servant, so shall thy servant do. As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the king’s sons”. 2 Samuel 9:11 KJV

Jonathon was king Saul’s son and a very close friend to the, chosen by God, anointed by the Prophet Samuel, King to be, shepherd boy, David. When king Saul realised that David was the anointed one, his love for him died and he set upon pursuing David to kill him. David had Gods favour and in that favour, came the friendship and confidante of king Saul’s son Jonathon. He informed David that his father the king, was going to kill him because he now knew who was to replace him. He told David of his father’s plot against his life and told him to flee. David never forgot Jonathon’s kindness and in the years to come, when he was finally on the throne, he asked his servants to find a way in which he could repay Jonathon & the house of Saul. “3. And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet” This son was Mephibosheth & unto him, David would show utter kindness & love for the love earlier shown to him by Mephibosheth’s father. Though king Saul hunted David for many years before dying, initially he loved David & took great comfort when David played the harp to both help him as king unwind, or when he was innumerably troubled. There was much animosity in the royal household towards David, this shepherd boy, because of the favour God bestowed on David through king Saul. Remember he did slay Giant Killer, Goliath so he was loved by the people too.
God allowed David’s gift to please king Saul but the spirit of jealousy reared its ugly head and when King Saul knew Samuel had anointed David to be the King of Israel, chosen by God, he vowed destruction on him. BUT GOD! God had David covered & king Saul failed. Does this sound familiar in your life? Jealousy towards you by somebody, it could be at work maybe, even your very own family but you don’t know why?
Mephibosheth was lame as the Bible states, disabled as we now term it, but he was still worthy & sought out by King David because God had a plan for his life. “7. And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.” We don’t read he was healed of being lame but we know he was blessed by God through David & beyond measure too; not only him but his son Micah too, his linage. Goodness & mercy will follow us all the days of our lives if we trust God.
Even if we are broken we are still worthy, full of sin but Gods righteousness makes us still worthy to receive favour, receive healing, to be delivered, indeed to be restored & just like Mephibosheth who felt unworthy- “And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am? ” BUT who was chosen & thought worth it, indeed of, to sit at King David’s table for the rest of his life; so this is for us; we can sit at Gods table because we are chosen generation. Chosen by God. Seen as worthy, seen as worth it! As David wrote “He prepares the table before me in the presence of my enemies, thou anoints my head with oil (blessing) my cup runs over, surely goodness & mercy shall follow me ALL the days of my life” & because of this favour David said “And I will dwell (live) in the House of The Lord all the days of my life, amen” David vowed that where the Presence of The Lord was, there he wanted to be- in Gods House. Gods promise to Abraham & His seed, Gods favour & love, found Mephibosheth through King David’s enquiries & because of prayer, someone is enquiring of us today, even if we think we are not good enough you are just come; “So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king’s table; and was lame on both his feet”
Favour is ours today because God said so! God has “blessed us with every spiritual blessing” & He “will restore all the years which the “caterpillar, locus & cankerworm has eaten” in our lives through sickness, financial issues, mental health issues, bereavement, addiction, anger, & that of our families too, The only God who can do this; but are we open to receive it?
Remember to join us here at LPCF in prayer for all the requests above & whilst you pray, we pray for you. If you need prayer or would like prayer for someone or a situation, please send it to me here, we will lift it up to Jesus. You are worth it because you are loved by God. God bless you & your household today, in Jesus precious name, amen??
