Today’s exhortation – wired to love

The Lord Jesus was asked what is the greatest commandment, He said, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’” Matthew‬ ‭22:37, 39‬). It can easily be assumed that this answer is only on a spiritual level, but it goes deeper than that. On a physical level, our bodies work at its optimum when it experiences God’s love and the love of people. Studies show clear changes in patterns of activity of the brain, heart, nervous, immune and hormonal systems when we experience love, peace etc and connections have been made between love and improved health.

It is clear we’re wired to love so we must make an intentional choice to love God and others no matter what. It goes without saying that this will require commitment and practice. Gary Player a famous golfer once said, “The more I practice, the luckier I get.” This is love, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…” (1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:4-8‬). Amen
