Today’s exhortation – second chances
Sometimes when we make a mistake in life it feels so final. When we make a serious mistake we might think its all over for us, but our God is a God of second chances and if we ask Him, He will give us another chance. It’s true that there are consequences to our mistakes but it does not mean we won’t get a second chance. It’s easy to allow ourselves to feel so condemned about our mistakes that we fail to see past them. We must bear in mind that “there’s therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus…” (Romans 8:1). And, “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (II Corinthians 5:17).
The bible’s full of stories of people who were given second chances. Samson was a man who was given a special gift to use to protect his people, but he used it mainly for his self interests and failed to live up to what was expected of him. But when he asked God for a second chance, God gave it to him. We’re told that Samson prayed to the Lord, “Sovereign Lord, remember me. Please, God, strengthen me just once more…” Judges 16:28). God strengthened him and he did more in his second chance than in his lifetime. (Judges 16:30). God is the same now as He was then and He will do for us what He did for Samson. Amen
