Today’s exhortation – pay attention to the heart and mind

We are told to pay attention to our bodies but what’s equally important is to pay attention to our minds(thoughts) and hearts because what happens there has a greater impact on our bodies. Neuroscientists say that 87% of illnesses can be attributed to our thought life, and approximately 13% to diet, genetics and environment. Studies conclusively link more chronic diseases also known as lifestyle diseases to toxic emotions. Toxic emotions like anger, fear, bitterness, hate, anxiety, un-forgiveness etc have been found to have direct link with cancer, migraines, heart and bowel problems.

Our bodies are also wired to love. Toxic emotions release chemicals that if done so over a sustained period cause damage to it. Eg our bodies can only sustain adrenaline for short periods of time before it becomes harmful to it. The bible says, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” Proverbs‬ ‭4:23‬) and it also says “take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5). Let’s take every thought that brings fear and anxiety captive and bring it in line to this word of God that, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (II Timothy‬ ‭1:7‬). Amen
