Today’s exhortation – victory is at hand!
Two years ago, a church member called for a 3-week prayer meeting which was to be attended by all, but only two people showed up the first two days. We had been expecting a lot of people to attend so on the third day when only two of us turned up again, our morale dropped and we felt a bit low. As we prayed, The Lord said to me “The times you feel down and feel like you are not getting anywhere in your prayers is when you are taking giant strides. Don’t give up, press in. This is when you are making the most impact with your prayers.” Then, He brought this verse to mind, “As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning.” (Exodus 17:11).
This was referring to a time when Israel were at war and Moses was interceding for them on top of a hill. While his hands were up in prayer, Israel were winning. But after a while he grew tired and lowered his hands. When he did, Israel started to lose. Something as simple as keeping his hands up was giving his people victory. Our simple prayers may not seem like much in our eyes, but spiritually we are moving mountains. Don’t give up praying, victory is at hand! “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” (James 5:16). Amen
