Today’s exhortation – God’s love pursues us

So great is the love and mercy of God that He relentlessly pursues us to lavish His love on us. In truth, He’s the One who chooses us first, if not, we would never choose Him. Also, if He doesn’t reveal Himself to us, we wouldn’t know Him. This picture is again shown in the life of Joseph and his brothers. Even though they had been with him and enjoyed his blessings they didn’t know it was him. It took his steward to go after them, convict them and bring them back to him. The bible says, “Joseph said to his steward, “Get up, follow the men; and when you overtake them, say to them, ‘Why have you repaid evil for good?”(Genesis‬ ‭44:4‬)

Joseph’s steward is a type of the Holy Spirit. He’s the One whom Christ sends after us to convicts us of our sins and bring us back to Him. Prior to that, we also enjoyed Jesus’ blessings and sustenance but didn’t know Him. Also, before we knew Him, we thought we were good until our sin was exposed. The brothers also said they were ‘honest’ men until their sin was exposed. One said “What shall we say unto my lord? what shall we speak? or how shall we clear ourselves? God hath found out the iniquity of thy servants…” (Genesis 44:16). When they said this, Joseph was quick to reveal himself and embrace them. Just as our Lord Jesus does for all who will turn back to Him and repent. Amen
