Today’s exhortation – God’s kingdom first

Now I can imagine that if I were in Joseph’s shoes and Pharaoh had asked for my help, I would’ve thought differently and thought what an opportune moment for me to capitalise upon! I would likely have used the occasion to make a bargain with the king for my freedom. I would’ve at the very least made certain that he understood the injustice of my circumstances. “You see, Pharaoh, I would really like to help you with your problem, but my mind is so troubled with my circumstances just now that I can’t think. Can you promise to set me free if I help you?”

I believe that as much as Joseph desired to be released from his captivity, he never brought it up. His first concern was not with his own comfort, but with God’s glory. And when Pharaoh told him that he heard that he could interpret dreams, he quickly corrected him and said, ““I cannot do it, but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.”” (Genesis‬ ‭41:16‬). One time, God asked Solomon what he wanted, and he asked for wisdom. So God said to him “Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both wealth and honour—so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings.”‭‭ (1 Kings‬ ‭3:13‬). In other words, we must seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to us (Matthew‬ ‭6:33‬). Amen
