Today’s exhortation – let’s talk about sex
Sexual temptation is something nearly all of us have to deal with in our lives, so let’s look at how Joseph dealt with it. The bible says, Joseph was handsome and his master’s wife lusted after him and she said, “Lie with me.” But he refused and said to her, “my master has put me in charge of everything, but you, because you are his wife. How can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” She spoke to him day by day, but he refused and stayed away from her. One day, when there was no one else in the house, she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside. (Genesis 39:12).
Joseph didn’t make any excuses, he was decisive! He refused her and stayed away. He honoured the trust his master had in him and above all he cared about God’s feelings and so refused to sin against Him. Finally, he ran! This temptation is so powerful that we’re told, “Flee sexual immorality.” (I Corinthians 6:18). We shouldn’t think that we are so strong in The Lord or strong willed that we can deal with it. No! Flee!!!! “Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you?” (I Corinthians 6:18-19). Amen
