Today’s exhortation – life study of Joseph
The story of Joseph is rich in lessons in life and so I believe studying his life will be beneficial to us. The first lesson is that favouring one child over another has serious consequences. This is where Joseph story begins and I believe it’s pointing us to the cause of the troubles he will later face in life. The bible says, Now Israel (Jacob) loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age. Also he made him a tunic of many colours. But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peaceably to him. (Genesis 37:3-4). They sold him into slavery for this.
The impact of showing favouritism to our children can be felt for generations. Abraham showed favouritism to Isaac, Isaac showed favouritism to Esau and now Jacob the same to Joseph. In each family one brother hated the other for it. The good news is, this cycle can be broken by forgiveness and so when Joseph forgave his brothers, it was broken off him. The bible says, brothers and sisters, practice your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ by not favouring one person over another. (James 2:1). God does not play favourites. (Romans 2:11). In Christ Jesus, we’re all the apple of His eye. Amen
