Today’s exhortation – good friends
I believe the company we keep is very important both spiritually and materially. A perfect example is this, the bible says, And everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to David. So he became captain over them. And there were about four hundred men with him. (I Samuel 22:2). This same group later be known as David’s mighty men. The bible records some of their exploits. One of them killed 800 men single handedly in a battle (2 Samuel 23:8), another fought a lion in a pit on his own and won. Another killed 300 men singlehandedly (2 Samuel 23:8)
In a nutshell, these men did what David did and more because they walked with him. They became giant slayers because he was a giant slayer. They killed lions because he had killed a lion and killed hundreds on their own like he did. The bible says, Keep company with the wise and you will become wise. If you make friends with stupid people, you will be ruined. (Proverbs 13:20). Have a good weekend.
