Today’s exhortation – power of prayer
Mary queen of Scots is reputed to have said “I fear the prayers of John Knox more than all the assembled armies of Europe.” The bible says, The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. (James 5:16). But why do we find it difficult to pray ? I believe it’s because the devil fears a prayerful person. Most of us have heard of Daniel and the lions den, but it all started because people tried to stop Daniel from praying to God. The real power behind this act was the devil. He got all the leaders of government in Babylon to get the king to issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or human being during the next thirty days, except to the king should be thrown into the lions’ den. (Daniel 6:7).
Daniel disobeyed the king and continued praying as he always did. He was thrown into the lions’ den for his defiance but God sent His angel to shut the mouths of the lions. We may not be thrown in the lions’ den today, but worry, fear, anxiety are all tools the enemy uses against us to try to stop us from praying. We may also find that as soon as we begin to pray, all manner of thoughts enter our heads to distract us. We may ask why would the devil go through all of that to stop us praying? It’s because he knows he can’t stop the power of our prayers so he will rather stop us praying by any means necessary. I pray that The Lord gives you a new lease of life and power in your prayer life in Jesus Name. Amen
