Today’s exhortation – our intangible assets

I believe a good way to encourage ourselves is to take an inventory of our intangible assets from time to time. Intangible assets means our everyday blessings. This may show possessions of priceless value which money can’t buy. Assets like salvation, sanity, peace of mind, ability to sleep, freedom from anxiety and fear, a sound body which has not been badly damaged by illness, ability to feel, clean air, peace with neighbours, freedom in our country, travelling mercies etc. As we can’t buy these things except receive them from God, we see that we are truly blessed.

It’s my hope that at the lowest points in our lives, we will allow ourselves to reflect on all our intangible blessings. This should help put our temporary set backs into perspective because though we may not have money or a lot of material wealth, we have priceless assets that money can’t buy. An intangible asset like salvation can’t be bought. We can’t attain it without accepting the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross. It is written, For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast (Ephesians 2:8,9). It’s priceless! We can’t take our material wealth with us when we die, but we can take an intangible asset like salvation with us. We get to keep this forever. Amen
