Today’s exhortation – children of Abraham

Why did God call Abraham? I believe it was to establish a new race of people because the old human race had become corrupt in the garden of Eden when Adam and Eve ate of the apple. The bible says that God drove them out of the garden and placed an angel with a flaming sword to keep them out. The garden signifies the presence of God. That old nature of man could never enter into the presence of God again. But God loves man and made a new way for us to enter in. He made a new race of people who will live by faith and not by sight and began with Abraham who is called the father of faith (Romans 4:11-12). The new man will live by faith and not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)

When God first called Abraham, He said to him, leave your kindred and go to a land that I will show you. Abraham had no sight of where he was going, but by faith, followed God. The Christian is a new creature in Christ, (2 Corinthians 5:17) who lives by faith and not by sight and our father is Abraham. It’s this new man that can once go into the presence of God again and commune with Him. Instead of being kept out of His presence, we are now told to go boldly into the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). Now, Abraham’s life with God, where God visited him, ate with him, shared secrets with him and called him friend is what the Christian is now! We too are friends of God and can go to Him freely because of Jesus Christ. Amen!
