Today’s exhortation – God’s laughing people
A man called Norman Cousins was given a few months to live in 1964. He had a rare disease and was told by doctors that he had a 1 in 500 chance of survival. He was told to get his affairs in order, but Cousins would have none of it. He left the hospital, checked into a hotel and obtained a movie projector and a pile of funny movies of the Marx Brothers and ‘Candid Camera’ shows. He spent every minute watching these films and laughing till his sides hurt. In short, he laughed his way back to health and lived another 26 years. He became the subject of studies on how to get well through laughter.
God’s made so many promises to us that we should be a people full of joy and laughter. The bible says, Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child? ” (Genesis 17:17). The promise was so preposterous that Abraham laughed. The funny thing is, God told him to name the child ‘Isaac’ which means ‘laughter’. You may have a dream which seems so impossible it makes you laugh. I believe God has put it in your heart, so don’t give up on them, trust that the God of the impossible can make them happen and they just will. It’s my prayer that God makes promises to you that seem so preposterous that, you will break out in laughter. Amen
