Today’s exhortation – tithing

Tithing is a sensitive issue, but I want to touch on it. Abraham was the first person to pay a tithe. He went to war against four kings who had captured his nephew Lot and all he had. He was successful in defeating the Kings and recovering everything. The bible says, Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, and he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything. (‭Genesis‬ ‭14‬:‭18-20‬). Note that when He met Abram, He brought out bread and wine which I believe represents the flesh and blood of our Lord which He gave at the last supper. This is our life supply and what we need to live.

He also made him aware that it was God who had made him successful in battle. He’s also the One who gives us strength and strategy to win our battles and to acquire all we have. Abram’s natural response was to give Him a tenth of everything. Melchizedek is thought to be none other than pre-incarnate Christ, our great High-Priest who intercedes for us day and night just as He did for Abram in battle. I also believe that the tithe was a love offering and thanksgiving to God for the victory. Therefore when we pay tithe it’s to say thank You to The Lord. Everyday’s a battle and without Him it will be impossible to win. Hence, I give Him a tithe whether it’s in the New Testament or not! Amen
