Today’s exhortation – inner vows cont.

Do you have issues with trust and loving people because of past hurt and trauma? Inner vows can cause us to have, “hearts of stone.” A heart of stone is a where a person is unable to receive love. Where an inner vow has been made because of hurt, pain or trauma, we tend to build walls around our hearts to protect ourselves so that we don’t go through that pain again. The problem with this is it makes it difficult for someone with a heart of stone to be in a loving relationship with God or other people because the very walls that we set up to protect ourselves also keep God and others out or stops us giving ourselves to God or others. This is completely contrary to what the bible is founded on and that is LOVE. As with every hurt and pain, God has made a way for healing.

He says, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh…” Ezekiel 36:25-27). No one likes being vulnerable but if we’re to get a heart of flesh, we must allow God to come in. A heart of flesh may leave us open to pain again but we stand to gain something far greater than and it’s LOVE. It also goes without saying that trust must be rebuilt too but you can trust Jesus, He will never ever let you down. Please sit with God today and ask Him to help you make a list of all vows and inner vows and ask Him to show you where you have built walls. If you’re struggling, ask someone who knows you to help. We’ll pray through them tomorrow. Happy Valentine’s Day.
