Today’s exhortation – godly soul ties
In recent weeks, we have covered a lot of areas of inner healing which if we are not careful can become a source of condemnation and so I want to stress that there’s no sin too great to be forgiven and no chain too great to be broken. The bible says, “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.” (1 John 2:1-2). “Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:25). He is able to save all to the uttermost!
In looking at godly soul ties, I also want to point out that our God is a merciful God. However His desire, whenever possible, is that we maintain the healthy covenants we make such as the marriage vow, parent child relationships and mature friendships. An eg, of a healthy soul tie in the bible is friendship between David and Jonathan where the bible says, “…the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.”
(I Samuel 18:1). But, soul ties where it becomes of concern is where one spouse have not left their mother and father to cleave to their mate. This soul tie MUST be broken if the marriage is to succeed. Also, where there’s s family business and the expectation is for a child to work or even take over the business. In this situation there’s an unhealthy control by the parents over the young ones. Please list any unhealthy soul ties you may have in your life. We’ll pray to break these next…
