Today’s exhortation – soul hurts

Every year, a lot of us make resolutions to detox our bodies and to bring them into a healthy state. What we must also resolve to do, is to do the same to our souls. Just as our bodies have health conditions, our souls do too. The bible indicates that in this verse, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” (III John‬ ‭1:2‬). It’s The Lord’s will that both our souls and bodies are in good health so over the course of the next couple of weeks, we’ll learn how to make our souls healthy and learn some foundational teachings on inner healing. There are many areas but we’ll begin with soul hurt which is some type of emotional or spiritual wound that we received based on somebody else’s words, actions, neglect or rejection which causes emotional, physical or spiritual trauma.

E.g.s of situations that cause these are, death of a loved one, divorce, abortion, failures, abuse(physical, verbal, emotional, sexual), war memories, childlessness, job loss etc. A scripture relating to the healing of our soul/spirit hurts is, “He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.” (Psalms‬ ‭147:3‬). The Lord Jesus’ ministry was also for the purpose of healing of our souls. He said, “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;” (Isaiah‬ ‭61:1‬).
